jim heffernan is still having a problem:
ran 
sudo smbpasswd -a heffsvr2  on the heffsvr2 machine set password... 

heffsvr2@heffsvr-2:~$ sudo smbpasswd -a heffsvr2
[sudo] password for heffsvr2: 
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
Added user heffsvr2.
restarted samba

then went to kitchen machine and tried to login using  user: "heffsvr2" with its new password
login is unsuccessful

login box shows domain as "WORKGROUP" however domain is "HEFFHOME"
Changed domain to "HEFFHOME" and tried login again unsuccessfull

any other ideas
