Question #215641 on samba in Ubuntu changed:

NikTh proposed the following answer:
Well , according to my knowledge local experts have a point here. I have a Windows 7 + Ubuntu 12.04 network sharing and I can use my printer (Windows connected-Desktop) through my Laptop (Ubuntu 12.04) , but I have the same password and username at both Operating Systems. I don't know what would happen if I change the password or username in one of them.
The fact is that I don't use the password that Windows provided (share network) so I assume this is not needed.
I installed samba packets (as I suggested to you) and everything worked out of the box.
Now , probably something is missing here and possibly is the password for Windows 2000.
Restriction ? hmm, yes , but do not forget that are different operating systems . If is a restriction then , from which side ? (Ubuntu=open source free software , Windows=Closed source restricted and non free software)
Windows + Windows always have a good relationship = same company = same OS.
Now , as you installed samba , try to UN-share the folders (from Windows
2000) and the re-enable share folders under Wokrgroup (again from
Windows 2000) and then test from Ubuntu to see if you can connect.
Thanks
