But it could be 'log_slow_queries' in the file.  That is, dashes and underscores are interchangeable.

The test is backwards.

582 mysql_variable \'log%queries\' log_slow_queries
can catch log_throttle_queries_not_using_indexes or log_queries_not_using_indexes
