It seems like there might be a syntax issue or a problem with how
testparm processes your smb.conf.master file. Ensure there's no typo
around the netbios name line, and try restarting the Samba service after
changes. Also, check the permissions of the configuration files to
confirm they're accessible to Samba.

Regarding the browsing issue with your Karmic boxes, make sure that the
Samba service is running and that firewalls are configured correctly.
You might also want to verify the WINS settings on the Karmic machines.
