I ran into the same issue on an older Ubuntu version—super confusing at
first. Winbindd usually comes with the main samba package, not winbind4.
Try installing samba or samba4 and see if that pulls in what you need.
Also, consider upgrading Ubuntu if possible—11.10 is pretty outdated.
