The winbind4 package doesn't include winbindd. Instead, install it via:

Copy
Edit
sudo apt-get install samba winbind libnss-winbind libpam-winbind
Also, Ubuntu 11.10 is really old—consider upgrading for a smoother, more secure setup. Like desi foods, fresher is better!
