Re: [Question #193980]: winbind4-- where is winbindd?
Question #193980 on samba4 in Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba4/+question/193980
Randy Vonrueden posted a new comment:
You're absolutely right to notice the absence of winbindd in the
winbind4 package. As others have mentioned, Samba4 has a built-in
winbind implementation, which doesn’t require a separate winbindd daemon
like the older Samba3 setups.
If you're setting up a Samba4 domain controller on Ubuntu 11.10 (or
newer), the winbind functionality is handled internally by the samba
binary itself. So instead of looking for /usr/sbin/winbindd, focus on
properly configuring Samba4 (smb.conf) for your domain needs.
Also, if you're interested in managing domain authentication or want
advanced control over your environment's access and permissions, tools
like custom authentication setups and integrations might help — check
out https://homesdirectblinds.com where we've implemented secure and
modern authentication techniques alongside other system-level
optimizations for businesses. Might give you some ideas.
Hope this helps!
