Re: Realmd 0.15.1 on fast-track

Where can I get the package from? It’s not in Ubuntu’s universe repository yet…

Best,
Longina

Hi Longina,
Well, even though I had installed all required libraries I run into problems with realmd due to aptdaemon, but if I installed packagekit and killed the aptdaemon the dependencies solved perfectly. Newer packages
of realmd seems to solve the issues with realmd segfaulting though. I haven't been able to reproduce the segfaults.
I haven't come as far as trying autofs or NFS with Kerberos yet, I will surely run into the same issues so thanks for the tip. I am not sure it issuing SPN's might be into the scope of realmd though, but it might. I'll check it out.
I'll keep you posted on progress.

Regards,
Niklas

Hi Niklas,
Thanks – I could use the buggy version if I preinstalled all the required software and changed in /etc/realmd.conf
to “no automatic installation” on the desktop client.
On the server I had to install additionally ‘packagekit’ package before.

I haven’t updated realmd yet – but thanks for tip.

I run into issue with adding nfs-SPN for NFS server:
Realmd does not support this option, and mixing ‘realmd’ for joining, and ‘msktutil’ for adding SPN was definitely not good idea.
I send request for possibility to add SPN for services to the realmd team.
By the way, does dyndns works for you?
This is default in sssd , but I can’t resolve hostnames after suspend/awake machine overnight.
Directly after joining machine it was possible.

Have you tried autofs with sssd?

Best
Longina

Hi Longina,
With the latest updates realmd seems to work just fine. Have you run into the issue again? I would say it works as expected.
After the join there are three things I need to do:
1. Set greeter-show-manual-login=true in /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu
2. Adjust sssd and add

   create_homedir = True
   access_provider = permit
...and remove the line with simple_allow-users $
3. Add session required pam_mkhomedir.so umask=0022 skel=/etc/skel/ to /etc/pam.d/common-session.
With these adjustments after the realm join you can login with your AD-credentials.

Niklas

Thanks a lot for both of you.
I hit the same bug testing sssd in Trusty and joining with ‘realm’.

Best,
Longina

Hello,
The best way to get the package in the repos is pinging the right people.

Process-wise, as it's a point release, it may get qualified for a micro-release update [1]. Timo Aaltonen went through the process for sssd back in 12.04, perhaps he can give us some guidance.
Realmd is in universe repository, which means it comes from Debian. 0.15.1 is currently not packaged anywhere, so we'll need to have it packaged and available in Debian (from where the package gets imported). The maintainers of the package are:

Utopia Maintenance Team [2] (QA Page [3], Mail Archive [4])
Laurent Bigonville [5] (QA Page [6])

Once the packages are available, we can request the update at the "Ubuntu Masters Of The Universe Developers" [7] (Mail Archive [8])
For the update to happen, we will need to have some sound arguments, like a list of bugs from Launchpad that the micro-release solves.
I hope it helps :)
Cheers,
Ballock

Hi,
realmd 0.15.1 was released [1] with important bugfixes (joining segfaults using present realmd... This version fixes that problem)
How can we gat 0.15.1 into the repos ASAP?
