Correction of my previous email: 

The Fortran blas version does converge (driver error on my part. Make
clean/make demo didn't rebuild the demos and I should have notices that). 

So I have the following situation:

Poisson + fenics-0.5.11 + petsc-nompi-nofc -> failure to converge
Poisson + fenics-0.5.11 + petsc-nompi      -> converges

I'll add the dump commands to see if I can root cause this.
