Brightness adjustment was fixed in the kernel 2.6.36.

Here there is the packages ready to install in Maverick:

Bug description:
  Fn+F6/F7 controls the brightness of the screen, but this key combination does not work. Similarly, Fn+F8,F9 wifi and mouse control also does not work.
