You can use nginx
ngx_http_auth_basic_module<http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_auth_basic_module.html>to
do it. Nginx allows to define you multiple locations with different
rules. If you want to set password protection only for the UI, use location
= / {...}
