Mmm..that's strange. Anyway if you have installed Ubuntu tweak check this answer https://answers.launchpad.net/gnome-activity-journal/+question/137706.
Otherwise  launch in a terminal "zeitgeist-daemon --replace"; try to open and motify something and tell me if in this terminal appear something like : "Inserted 1 event".
