I tried to reproduce the issue using the master branch from git. I am
not able to reproduce this. I see a dialog box asking whether to save
changes, or discard it.

Bug description:
  when a new file is created using "CTRL+N" or the "New source file" toolbar button, it will directly replace the open file buffer, replacing all contents - even modified source code that hasn't yet been saved. 

This is a bug because it may result in loss of data.

In addition, it would also make sense to show the filename of the currently opened file in the window's caption.
