release plans, repository upgrade

Hey all, a quick update on release plans. I'm finding it a huge pain in the
ass to keep the trunk and 1.1 branches in sync, and in the process I've
repeatedly broken the 1.1 branch so my new plan is to ditch the two branches
idea and work on merging all the new 1.1 stuff back into trunk. This isn't
going to happen right away, immediate priorities are still releasing 0.9.9
and working on docs but in the near future Ceres will be coming to trunk.
Keeping with the goal of "don't screw your users" we will not be forcing
Ceres instead of whisper but rather will make Graphite work with either
database and changing will be done via simple configuration. The default
will remain whisper for 1.0.

*After* 1.0 is out I will create a new 1.1 release series that will start as
a clone of 1.0 except with Ceres as the default database. All new features
will go on 1.1 and 1.0 will only get bug fixes and do patch releases
(1.0.x). The intention is to finally have a "stable" release of Graphite,
one that people can use for more than a few months without upgrading. I will
try to get the 1.0 release into package repositories for a few Linux
distros.

In the mean time, don't use the lp:graphite/1.1 branch. If you already are
thats fine, just don't update to the latest because it is currently broken.

In other news, our bzr repository is in dire need of an upgrade to the 2a
format so we can properly merge in people's branches which are all on the
newer format. The caveat here is that when we upgrade the repository, you
will have to upgrade your branches as well in order to be able to push to
trunk. I propose we just set a date and go for it, so how about September
1st? Please let me know if you have any objections otherwise I will proceed
with the upgrade. I will send out another reminder or two, I'd hate for
anyone to lose work by not being able to commit pending changes.

One final bit, expect 0.9.9 in the first week of September, I'll get started
on it right after we upgrade the repo.

Thanks again everyone, especially to all the new contributors who've been
pitching in all over the place as of late.

-Chris
