Hm... this is really strange. I've never seen this but your symptoms are
quite specific, carbon is periodically missing an iteration of
generating its internal datapoints... what does its cpu usage look like?
It's possible that if the cpu usage is high and the daemon is started
somewhere near a minute boundary that it could occasionally fail to
compute it's internal metrics in a timely manner, causing gaps.
