For those interested...

 Shinken, a Nagios-like re-write in Python, has officially released a stable version (1.0) that includes a graphite/carbon export module.

Shinken should be added to the list of tools that integrate Graphite.

Work is also being done with one of the Livestatus API based front-ends to integrate Graphite, so let me know if anyone is interested in following this.
