How can one escape whisper DB entries that might contain periods?  For example, in your 'Getting Your Data Into Graphite, Step 2 - Configure your Data Retention' section you provide 'servers.HOSTNAME.METRIC' as an example naming scheme.  What if the hostname is expected to include periods?  Can these periods be escaped for the metric or must they be replaced some other character (like an underscore)?
