It sounds like this person needs to feed metrics into Graphite.  The example-client.py is just that, an example on how to send data to Graphite.   If you cannot write scripts to collect data and send them to Graphite, you may want to look at statsd or collectd to do that for you. 

If you don't feed data into Graphite, you will not get any graphs.
