I've got exactly the same problem today after upgrade of python-django from version 1.4.5 to 1.5.1 (the system is Debian testing, python 2.7).
Had to return django 1.4.5 back and everything works again.
Would be interesting to understand what is broken in django 1.5.1, at least in debian package python-django_1.5.1-2_all.deb
