Generally, packages are only updated in stable Ubuntu releases to fix
high-priority bugs. Read this page for more information about how
updates work.

Many packages in Ubuntu never get updates in stable releases. For a
"universe" package like this, it requires volunteers that are interested
in the package to prepare the update and verify that the updates fixes
the bugs without introducing other bugs.
