Bug description:
as pointed out in https://golang.org/issue/26567, the go tool doesn't
find it's library, installed in a path which has only the major
version as a path component, but not the complete version, and gcc
-dumpversion prints 6.0.0. Solution here is to just provide an
additional symlink 6.x.y to 6. Don't change the output of gcc
  -dumpversion.

Properly fixed in GCC 7 and GCC 8.
