[Bug 1756750] Re: allowed_hosts does not work with IPv6 hostnames

Hi,

I hit this very old bug while doing some clearance.

Trusty and Xenial reached EOSS (End of Standard Support) so I'm afraid
it can't be fixed. It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this
defect, however, there appears to be no further action possible at this
time because it's not a security bug.

As you kindly provided, the patch was applied for higher versions, so
this bug doesn't apply to any Ubuntu series in support.

However, if you find that the same problem continues to occur, do not
hesitate to raise it again.

** Changed in: nagios-nrpe (Ubuntu Xenial)

Title:
allowed_hosts does not work with IPv6 hostnames

Status in nagios-nrpe package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in nagios-nrpe source package in Xenial:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
We've noticed that IPv6 nrpe connections are not being permitted when
allowed_hosts is set to a DNS name that resolves to an AAAA record.
  This was reported upstream as
  https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe/issues/31 in 2015 and fixed
  in
  https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe/commit/1ac990954b7806d9cc92fa340808b29219e872a1
  for https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe/tree/nrpe-2-16-RC2, but
unfortunately the patch doesn't apply to 2.15, which is the version in
  trusty and xenial.
