Re: Technical topic for this week's blog...

 

I mostly agree with Lionel's post. Some small remarks:

 - I agree with project ownership. Not suggesting a defined project
would certainly help having better project proposals. There are many
projects this year that just plainly lacks some insight. However, I
would still suggest some interesting path to follow (for those who
needs insipiration) and/or mention some of the current
issues/discussions we currently have in GTG (so that a proposed
project also fit our plans).

 - We should mention that there is also the GOPW program that offers
many mentoring possibilities, without the mandatory no coding
requirements. There are a lot of needs that are not specially
code-related (documentation, design, etc.), therefore the emphasis on
coding abilities matters actually more for GSoC than GOPW.

 - I fully agree with Lionel on the fact that a list of skills is
mostly useless. What I'm interested in is: did you understand what the
problem (what it *really* is)? do you have a plan? will you be able to
carry it on (if not completely, at least bootstrap it correcty!)?
