[Bug 1165464] Re: Tray Icon for Gufw
The notification area in 11.04 only allows certain apps to appear there - you can whitelist more (or all) of them though through terminal. Pidgin, though, is not blacklisted, it just appears in the messaging menu (the little folder next to the clock).

I'll try to do this feature with Quicklist, bug #986593
Best regards and thanks for your idea :D

Title:
Tray Icon for Gufw
Status in Gufw:
Won't Fix
Bug description:
I know that there are good arguments for not having Gufw running all
the time -- IE it doesn't have to run to protect... However, I
personally really would like to see the icon in the tray (when closing
or minimizing) for the following reasons: I would like the icon to
have right click options to block all incoming and outgoing, or to
allow all incoming and outgoing. It a quick way for me to block
everything during long period when I don't need my computer for any
external networking (added sense of security), and I like to allow all
incoming and outgoing so that I can test certain apps or commands that
don't work and possibly may be blocked by the firewall.
