I think this is as simple as automatically refreshing the timeline 1-2
seconds after posting anything. In that way, you would immediately see
the new message ;)

Bug description:
  When posting a message, I do not see it appearing in the message list
  until I either refresh manually or wait for the next poll.

  I think it would be good to show the message in the list immediately,
  perhaps with a spinner to show that it's pending.

  I have Gwibber installed on Ubuntu Jaunty, from the daily PPA:
