Read about this on a blog somewhere, so I tried it out, and I
encountered this bug as well (minus the compiz crash, since it hadn't
crashed for me). I ran setsid unity which triggered a compiz crash, but
now the lens works.

I noticed that the menu in the upper right hadn't appeared until after
the fix.  I could type in the search bar but the lens was blank. Hope
this helps you narrow it down.

Bug description:
  unity-lens-gwibber doesn't contain any info and quicklists show
  nothing but gwibber unless compiz crashes. Post compiz crash
  everything is fill and the quicklist show as expected.

  I'm assuming this is actually an issue with compiz.  It shows up
  everytime there is a new version installed.

  Are there ant logs anywhere that would be useful to you guys?
