The overlay entry is by design.  The only way to display the tweet would
be to push the stream down.  We might rethink the overlay in 3.4 for
performance reasons.

Bug description:
  Hitting reply on tweet at the top of timeline opens the update status
  text box over said top tweet, obscuring it.
