Using a manual symlink. It's sort of like using MySQL's datadir variable
over just using the standard path and using symlinks. So like:

/var/spool/holland/myset -> /mnt/somewhere/else/holland/myset

No more code to worry about and it sounds like it would solve the
problem Mike is trying to solve?

It would be nice to have global backup_directory overridden if specified in the backupset.
