[Bug 687393] Re: When HDR merging bracketed photos, EXR appears white in most apps

** Description changed:

I've been struggling with this for a few days now, and finally decided
to log a bug. I'm attempting to merge together three JPG's taken with my
Nikon D5000 using bracketed exposure values. I found some tips and
instructions on merging into a single HDR, and I think I have the
process correct. I was using the 2010.2 version initially, but since
upgraded to the latest dev beta, 2010.4 beta 2. The stitching page looks
a bit better, but the results are the same.

  My process:
  1. Load images
  2. Set control points
3.Optimize only position / view (the default "wizard" settings mess up the alignment)
  4. Optimize FOV / crop
  5. Generate "High Dynamic Range Merged Stacks"

So.. I also have the latest Luminance HDR 2.0.2 as well as Photoshop CS4
with the latest available EXR plugin. I also have Piturenaut 3.0 for HDR
processing. When I open either the intermediate or the final stacked HDR
file that was generated with Hugin, the entire thing appears all white
in Photoshop. When I attempt to open it with Luminance HDR, it crashes
  Luminance.

Fortunately, I found that I can open the generated EXR in Picturenaut
and then re-save the EXR from there to process it with Luminance. This
is an annoying workaround, but at least it works!

I suspect this is a bug in hdr_merge... possibly to do with the EXR
  libraries..

  Best regards,
  -Sean

PS. If you would like a copy of the photos I'm merging, let me know the
best way to send them over.
