I did not even know there was functionality attached to the mouse wheel.
I have no mouse wheel.  Are there any alternate keys to access the zoom
in and out?

middle-click is also difficult (must press both mouse keys at the same
time).  Any chance to add a key as modifier to the drag operation, such
as CTRL+drag?
