[Bug 1016472] Re: Hugin segfaults without error message when doing 'photometric optimisation'.
I tried with your project and images. But I got no crash (tested on Windows and Fedora).
So it is something special with your configuration (probably build configuration). The only parameter related to photometric optimization stored in the (runtime) configuration is the number of points to sample, which is asked for each start of optimization. So it seems related to a special combination of Hugin (build) options and used/linked external libraries.
Maybe running in the debugger gdb could reveal some more details where the crash happens, if this is reproducible on your system.

Hugin segfaults without error message when doing 'photometric
optimisation'.
I am using the latest hugin package from the ubuntu repository: 2011.4.0
This is reproducable every time.
This makes the program as a whole significantly less useful if not useless.
Creating control points and quick optimisation complete successfully.
Photometric optimisation segfaults.
Here is an example of typical output from the console:

Panorama stitching also fails if trying to use hugin via the digikam plugin, presumably for the same reason.

I regret it's in german, but could perhaps be translated by google...
I've searched for duplicate bug reports but found none.
