Thanks for the patch. But I will not apply it. First there is already a very similar function implemented. If you click with the pressed control key on the image variable, it is selected/unselected. This is documented in the label above the image tree. 
Second, the context menu is already very long. So we should only add these functions which are not implemented in an other way. But this feature is already implemented in an other way.

Bug description:
  The attachment contains patch (for revision 5977) adding two menu
  items ("Select" and "Unselect") in context menu of the ImagesTree
  widget working in optimizer mode. This items allow to select/unselect
  variable in current column for optimisation only for image(s) in
  selected line(s).
