We know there is a bug with the fast preview window: it happens only with special graphic systems (graphic card + driver). We were not able yet to isolate the bug, because on most systems it works.
You could try:
1.) Update driver for your graphic card.
2.) Update to Hugin 2012.0
3.) If both does not help: in preferences, tab assistant, set after align to "do nothing". Then run align. You could try, if you can open the fast preview window from the menu before or after align. If this does not work, you can still use the "old" preview window.

Title:
  segmentation fault after image alignment

Status in Hugin - Panorama Tools GUI:
  New

Bug description:
  loaded a some pictures, then clicked on "Align" button, the new window
  with the console opens up, execute his own calculations with (as i
  assume) success and close itself. The new panorama window opens itself
  showing no images. In few seconds the whole application crashes
  leaving a segmentation fault.
