Only a comment: Clicking on the line in layout mode opens already the two images in the control point tab. 
So clicking on the line is not possible for this feature.

  Sometimes it is convenient when it would be possible to delete
  controlpoints from the layout window. Switch to "delete controlpoints"
  mode, and click on a link. Whoooosh and the controlpoints between
  those pictures are gone.

  (I've suggested in the past that controlpoints should carry a weight
  with them. In that case, setting weight=0 would do the trick. )
