I can't reproduce the crash. With my 64 bit version and also with the 32
bit version from sourceforge the image is correctly opened. No crash.

Bug description:
  Hugin crashes when loading jpg image (16 MB). (image is attached to
  this report)

  Windows 7, 32 bits, portuguese

  Machine DELL VOSTRO, 4GB, processor Intel I3 350m, 2 cores, 4 treads

  HUGIN 2012.0.0.a6e4184ad538

  Notes: 
  1- original image: Fuji HS20 RAW file, converted to JPG by Lightroom 4.
  2- image has an obvious focus problem, but ICE panorama software, from Microsoft, processed this image w/o any problem
  3- other similar images are processed OK by HUGIN
