This looks like the 'arithmetic coding' bug that was fixed in enblend:

What version of enblend do you have installed (it may be called enblend-

  jpeg files cannot be opened by eye of gnome nor Xnview

Bug description:
  Hi,

  I used Hugin a lot under windows. I now switched to Ubuntu.
  Unfortumately the jpeg are nor readable by eye of gnome and there is
  neither a  preview  in the folder view.

  Here is my system information:

  Architektur: 64 bit
