Message #01031
Optimus victim
Hi,
No luck getting the Nvidia device working on my Thinkpad W520 with Ubuntu
Natty.
$ lspci -vnnn | perl -lne 'print if /^\d+\:.+(\[\S+\:\S+\])/' | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation
Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09)
(prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Device
[10de:0dda] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Forcing Discreet mode in BIOS lets me use nvidia in X but its very unstable
and locks up a lot. Using compositing is out of the question as it instantly
hangs the laptop.
In Optimus mode the nvidia kernel module also loads but I can't get a screen
working in X. Tried every possible "ConnectedMonitor" option without luck.
Should have checked for Linux support more thoroughly before getting this
laptop.
