A git17 package has been pushed to ius-testing for EL 5:

$ sudo yum install yum-plugin-replace

$ sudo yum replace git --replace-with git17 --enablerepo=ius-testing

$ git --version
git version 1.7.2.3

Bug description:
Git is a fast, scalable, distributed revision control system with an unusually rich command set that provides both high-level operations and full access to internals.

EPEL provides Git 1.5.5.6 which is missing some nice features, specifically git -A
