Re: [Question #190681]: Text Entry Very Slow

Question #190681 on Kabikaboo changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/kabikaboo/+question/190681

Gary V Deutschmann Sr gave more information on the question:
Returned to provide more information that may help the developers, which
also brought up another bug.

I was thinking that perhaps the fact I had the spell-checker turned on
that it may be causing a slow down on larger documents. The Bug I
discovered was that you cannot turn Off the Auto-Check feature,
attempting to do so closed Kabikaboo.

Larger documents (children in the tree), kept taking longer and longer
to open. At around 20k words it takes about 5 minutes for that child to
open, at 30k words it was up to around 10 minutes before the file would
open. CPU ran at 100% while opening the file, swap file at 0% usage,
then once opened, CPU dropped back to 0 to 2% while working on the file.

The WORKAROUND I've found that seems to be working, for both problems,
was to break the paragraphs in each file with an extra carriage return.
They load much faster, but still painstakingly slow on larger files.
But adding the double carriage return seemed to halt the slowness of the
character entry and the program could then keep up with my typing.

Exporting a document seems to remove the carriage return between
paragraphs, but I have not checked yet to see if using double carriage
returns closes it up or not. In Kabikaboo a carriage return appears to
be a paragraph break, but after export, the paragraph break is lost.
Another reason why I decided to edit and use a double carriage return.
When I did, loading speeded up a tad and the program could keep up with
my typing. And as I just said, I have not tried an export yet to see if
the export then retains the paragraph breaks.

Hope this helps you guys out some!
