  KVDetector::GetELostByParticle
  modifies absorber thicknesses according to orientation of detector (if given),
  then calculates real energy loss of particle using GetTotalDeltaE
  
  KVDetector::DetectParticle
  modifies absorber thicknesses according to orientation of detector (if given),
  then calculates real energy loss of particle using GetTotalDeltaE (this
  energy is subtracted from particle's kinetic energy), and sets the detector's
  active layer energy loss to the apparent energy given by GetDeltaE.
  the previous implementation was not correct for silicon detectors with
  non-zero pulse height deficit (energy loss in silicon was set to the real
  total energy loss of the particle, without PHD)
