actually i'm not sure if the files were physically absent or just had the wrong permissions,
because when i looked yesterday the 'ident2' directory was not readable except for user 'indramgr'
(the SRB superuser):

this may be related to the internal workings of the SRB<->hpss interface,
or a temporary failure of SRB, or any other reason...
