  bugfix for lp:1346319
  modifies calibration of forward (1-9) and backward (10-17) rings
  if the energy given by the calibrated stopping detector (SD) of a particle is OK,
  for any of the detectors in front of the SD whose calibration gives a bad (<0)
  energy we calculate the energy loss in the detector from the residual
  energy measured behind it, instead of giving a 'bad calibration' (15) code
  to the particle leading to its rejection in analysis.
  also reduce amount of code duplication.
