Simon Bloxhim, could you please unplug all USB devices, plug in just the problematic USB devices, and then immediately place the following in a terminal and attach the results:

  This computer will not recognise an attached SD card. I also have a
  dell inspiron 9400 that had the same problem but I managed to fix it,
  but I can't do this on this computer.
