[Bug 1176513] Re: Shutdown doesn’t turn the PC off
Paolo Amoroso, as per
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P7P55M/#support_Download_8 an update is
available for your BIOS (1101). If you update to this, does it change
anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Shutdown doesn’t turn the PC off
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Shutting down the system from Unity by clicking the gear icon at the
top right of the screen, selecting the shutdown option, and then
clicking the shutdown icon at the center of the screen, doesn’t turn
the PC off.
The shutdown process is initiated and the screen with the Ubuntu logo
at the center and a solid background color appears, but the PC remains
on. I have to manually operate the PC's power switch to turn it off.
Selecting the restart option rather than a shutdown doesn’t restart
the PC either, same behavior.
Issuing a shutdown or reboot from a shell with the "sudo shutdown -h
now" or "sudo shutdown -r now" command seems to consistently complete
the procedure and work correctly.
Until upgrading from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 on the same hardware a
couple of days ago, this feature worked correctly. The problem might
be related to some frequent instability issues I reported in bug
#1176061:
Random system freezes
