[Bug 1096989] Re: No wireless support for Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 (RTL8188E)

deltha
Thank you for your posting. After reading your posting I have installed the 3.10 and now on my Lenovo Q190 I can use WIFI.

The uname -a confirms that I have the correct kernel

uname -a
Linux charles-pc 3.10.0-031000-generic #201306301935 SMP Sun Jun 30 23:36:16 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Now, all I need to do is to make this kernel the default boot choice
instead of the 3.10 rc5. For now I am choosing advanced options at boot
up and then selecting the 3.10 kernel with the WIFI drivers.

Title:
No wireless support for Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 (RTL8188E)

Status in HWE Next Project:
  New
Status in The Linux Kernel:
  New
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm on 12.10. The wifi adapter doesn't seem to be recognized at all:
doesn't show up in NetworkManager, no adapter listed by iwconfig. The
wifi card seems to be a RTL8188E (lspci -nn tells me it's 10ec:8179).

  I've tried to:
     - install the Realtek driver for the RTL8188CE (seemed close enough...)
     - install the driver from https://github.com/tianon/linux-rtlwifi-8188ce
     - install linux-backports-modules-cw
     - upgrade to kernel 3.7

  None of those worked.

Pasting the full output of the wireless troubleshooting procedure
  command below.
