If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:

  [Toshiba Tecra R850-19Z] Screen brightness not changable via applet or

Bug description:
  By default the screen is very dark and almost unreadable. The Fn+F6/7
  hotkeys show the brightness applet but don't change the brightness.
