robert, is this still reproducible now that you replaced the PSU? If so,
as per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2722#bios
an update is available for your BIOS (F7). If you update to this, does
it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

  Shutdown freezes after kernel update 3.2.0-38

Bug description:
  After the latest kernel update i cannot shut down normally anymore.
  Everything freezes when the splash screen "shutdown dots" get to two.
  The problem disappeared when i downgraded to kernel -37.
