update is available for your BIOS (1.43). If you update to this, does it
change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Bug description:
  I have an external harddrive.

  Bus 001 Device 009: ID 1058:0901 Western Digital Technologies, Inc.
  MyBook External HDD

  After upgrade to 12.10 (from 12.04) it cannot stay in sleep mode. It
  powers down but just after that it powers up again.

  Every time this happens I get this in my syslog:

  If I manually do 'sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdb' it goes to sleep and
  doesn't wake up again (until I use it).
