Title:
Raring Beta 2: BCMWL installation from Additional Drivers causes crash

Status in “bcmwl” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
On a fresh installation of Kubuntu Raring from the Beta 2 install
medium, attempting to use the Additional Drivers utility to install
the BCMWL wireless drivers for a BCM43225 causes a severe crash. At
the time of my original Beta 2 install, this problem did not occur, so
it is the result of an update to some package since the time of the
  Beta 2 release.

Attempts to install in single-user (Recovery) mode using jockey-text
failed in exactly the same way. The failure is identical whether
attempting to install either before or after fully updating the
system. The failure causes varying degrees of system corruption,
including wiping out the entire USB system or even the entire kernel.
Should the system be left in a working state (following a reboot) the
  driver installation cannot be re-attempted.

The workaround is to select restricted drivers at initial install.

I cannot verify that this bug is necessarily coming directly from the
bcmwl package itself, as it may also involve the kernel and various
other packages. The kernel would not appear to be the culprit, as the
Beta 2 install medium has not changed, so the kernel from that time is
still available and still results in failure, where it did not at the
  time of Beta 2 release.
