it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Bug description:
  Hi,

  all but one USB ports on my new HP ProBook 4540s appear to be dead. I
  see no reaction to plugging in any devices, even in the syslog. The
  laptop is booted via UEFI (and I see no option to switch to a
  classical BIOS).
